Our carpenters removed the worn carpeting and torn vinyl and replaced them with solid oak stairs and engineered oak flooring to make this split entryway in Inver Grove Heights warm and inviting.  This particular project included the adjacent stairs going down (not pictured), cost $5,500, and took 2.5 days to complete.  You can view the full photo album for this project here.

Rotted Wood Repairs & Replacement

Any wood component of your home that is exposed to water will eventually fail.  When homes are built in a production setting, speed is typically the foremost priority, and water prevention can fall by the wayside.  The photos below show a fairly typical project for us:  repairing rotten wood damage that could have been prevented with a bit of care.  The project shown below on a home in Inver Grove Heights MN cost $1,500; every project is different and costs can vary.

The homeowner noticed a small amount of wood rot near this window, in the bottom left corner.  Two pieces of wood were sandwiched together, creating a trap for water.

  Upon demolition, it was discovered that there was no housewrap installed to protect the sheathing.  Window flashing was installed improperly.  Carpenter ants were enjoying a nice place to nest.  Thankfully, the moisture had not yet damaged the framing.

We applied boric acid to kill the ants, and mildew killer to the framing.  The damaged sheathing was replaced.

Houswrap and window flashing are installed to protect the home from water infiltration.

 We use cedar for the new trim due to it’s natural rot resistance.  The backside and ends of the cedar are back-primed before installation so that if any water should get behind the wood, it cannot penetrate into the wood.  The owner opted to finish the painting himself on this project.

A closeup of the trim detail under the window reveals a metal cap to prevent water from entering this vulnerable area.  It blends right in when it’s painted.  Premium sealant is applied to all of the caulk joints.

“I live in a very old house with beautiful molding. Only the previous homeowner removed a lot of the molding and never replaced it. The molding was around 12 inches high and very detailed. Eric was able to replicate the molding to match the 1911 style perfectly using modern wood cuts and pieces! He got a lot done in a timely fashion and was fun to be around as well! To dress up this dining room, Allrounder installed simple maple waiscot, and then faux-painted the existing door to match.
